Geophysical Workshops

Hands-On Seismic Processing Course (4 day)

This five day course teaches you the ins and outs of processing. The course consists of formal technical lectures on key processing steps combined with a focus on the practical aspects of processing. The workshop is designed for interpreting Geophysicists. A processing mentor will be assigned to work with 1 or 2 students to ensure that they get the most out of the course, and students will take away a final processed version of the data set they bring to class.

WinPICS 3D (1/2 day)

This is a half-day workshop that will introduce EnvisionVSX, Divestco's 3D visualization engine for WinPICS projects.  This software is an add-on for WinPICS that can launch directly from WinPICS or as a stand-alone program.  Projects can be sent from WinPICS into EnvisionVSX to view a 3D model of seismic data.  WinPICS and EnvisionVSX form a new interpretation partnership, keeping WinPICS at the heart of the system.  Still using WinPICS to do all of the interpretation tasks, students will learn to use EnvisionVSX to view interpretations in three-dimensions and gain a greater insight into how everything in a project fits together.  Using Envision VSX students learn to visualize in-lines / cross lines / time slices; cloud formations (vol. visualization); well bores (deviated and straight); well tops; consistency-slices; interpreted horizons; 2D seismic lines; WinPICS overlays.  In addition, EnvisionVSX contains two new types of seismic display  that are unique to this software:  Light density and Composite Density.  Learn to use either display to view seismic data in a 3D view.  This workshop is intended for Geologists, Geophysicists, and Technologists.

SynthSuite (1/2 day)

Learn how to seismically model stratigraphic changes using multi-well log data.  This course will cover importing log curve data, producing model log curves that fit the anticipated geology in the area, constructing a valid geological cross section, interpolating log curves and producing the final output model seismic section.  This workshop is intended for Geologists, Geophysicists and Technologists.  Prerequisites include basic geological / geophysical background and basic computer skills.

WinPICS Intro to Data Prep (1 day)

This full day workshop is designed for those requiring an overview of primary data loading capabilities of WinPICS.  Topics include seismic data loading, well data loading, SEG-Y version import, project merging and relocations, and coordinate conversion.  This course is intended for Geologists, Geophysicists, and Technologists.  Students should have a basic understanding of seismic exploration as well as basic computer skills.

WinPICS Intro to Seismic Interpretation (1 day)

This full day workshop is designed for those requiring an overview of the interpretation capabilities of WinPICS.  Topics include picking, mapping, simple gridding and contouring, easy time-to-depth conversion, seismic and synthetic tie analysis, similarity and ranking maps.  The intended audience is Geologists, Geophyicists, and Technologists.  Students should have a basic understanding of seismic exploration as well as basic computer skills.

WinPICS Strat Analysis (1/2 day)

This is a half-day workshop designed for those requiring an overview of the more advanced aspects of the stratigraphic interpretation tools in WinPICS.  The workshop will provide excercises and examples showing tie diagnostics with match filters, and seismic trace attributes including instantaneous amplitude, inst. frequency, and inst. phase, Gas Absorption Ratio, and spectral decomposition.  Seismic horizon attributes including dip and azimuth maps, similarity and ranking maps, edge detection, PICScript and QuickScript will also be covered.  The intended audience is experienced seismic interpreters and WinPICS users.  Students should have an understanding of seismic exploration and WinPICS.
